Subject: Listening notes
This is not a review per se, although I consider Marion Harris one of the great female voices of the 20th Century. I am writing to warn listeners that many of the sound files in this collection are not playing at the right speed. Those that have had noise reduction seem to be all right, but the direct transfers from disc, at least the Columbias and Brunswicks (this is generally indicated in the metadata), are spinning at 78 (78.26, to be precise), when they should be spinning at 80. This makes a huge difference! At the slower speed, the performances seem dull and uninspired, and Marion Harris was NEVER that!
If you have access to any sort of sound file processing software, please adjust the length of these files to 97%, or do whatever the software does to speed it from 78.26 to 80, before you judge the performances therein.
